The Lone Ranger series
The Lone Ranger, with its thrilling action sequences and compelling narrative, has captivated audiences for generations. I remember as a girl, the exhilaration I felt watching those daring chases and swift duels. The adventures of the masked man and his loyal horse, Silver, sparked a sense of wonder and adventure in me. It wasn’t just the excitement; it was the idea of bravery and justice that drew me in.
Looking back, those memories inspired a creative journey for me. I completed a series of paintings in 2010 that paid homage to the iconic cowboy theme. Each piece served as a tribute to the spirit of adventure that defined my childhood, capturing the essence of a timeless classic that still resonated within me. The blend of nostalgia and creativity fueled my passion, and I aimed to convey the same sense of excitement and courage I felt when I first watched those thrilling escapades.

Treasure Island Installation - Istitut Francais London
This series of water-colours started from my efforts to learn a new language. I set about reading the french translation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel ‘L’Ile au Tresor’. I was instantly hooked; its fast paced story, treacherous pirates, buried gold, and murderous plots are nail biting and I found myself drawing parallels to the very real horrors of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean. People living in fear face impossible choices, risk the dangers of the open sea or remain in war torn homelands to suffer biblical levels of violence and grief. A sense of foreboding tinted with a glimmer of hope and promise on the horizon inspired these works, fulfilling what Virginia Woolf called “the strange human need for feeling afraid but also the need to retain links to the past and oral traditions.’
