Royal Jubilee celebratory Tile Mural

Commission an art project for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II

As the Queen's 60th year as head of state approaches, schools everywhere are beginning to plan their activities and celebrations. Local artist and teacher Gail Astbury is offering 3 activities that will delight children, as they create a lasting work of art. Teachers will be glad of the input and experience of a skilled artist at this time of celebration and anticipation for the whole country.

For more information, email Gail or call 07957 355 260.

There are 3 activities available:

  1. Class Tile Mural     £1800
Each child in the class will prepare a ceramic tile using englaze, pigment and brush, to a Royal Theme, which together when fired will form a splendid and long-lasting mural and memorial to the Diamond Jubilee. Mural size 90 cm x 75 cm. Children will learn about ceramics, and see their works transformed and fixed by kiln fire.

  2. Her Majesty Framed Portrait     £1200
Children will study portraiture, especially royal portraiture, from Classical and Renaissance art to works of the present day. Then they will commence their own portrait works in paint on rich paper. These will be framed, presented as an exhibition in the school, and ultimately returned to the children as a keepsake.

  3. Royal Print     £800
The class will explore colour and pattern, particularly as it is used to augment and enhance portrait paintings, then prepare their own ink washes on rich paper. A photo-portrait of the Queen of England will be overprinted, providing an individual and unique momento of the Diamond Jubilee for each child.
Workshops with classes are taking place in the spring term, around the February Half Term.
