The wall is in what was a gloomy stretch of playground, hardly visited by the pupils. The art work has definitely cheered up this area and brought fresh energy and interest for the children. Scroll down

The wall is many metres long, and strengthened with thick buttresses. Mosaic work makes up the swirling skies above the wheatfield.

We cut crows out of steel, painted them black and hung them above the sunflower field, combining one of Van Gogh's most famous images, of black crows, with his much loved sunflowers. Vincent Van Gogh often painted the same or similar scenes many times, so the inspiration for our wall comes from various canvases.

The children in year 5 made ceramic flowers in clay. These were fired in our kiln, and together make up the irises, cornfields and sunflowers.

One of the best books on his work is Van Gogh - the complete paintings by Walther and Metzger. Its beautifully illustrated, well documented and a treat to browse through.

The best place to see Van Gogh's work is Amsterdam, at the Van Gogh museum. Altogether Vincent Van Gogh painted hundreds of landscape pictures, as well as the portraits, self-portraits, interiors and still lives that are so well known.
